Graveside services for Gertrude Peagler Barrett, 97, of Clarkesville, were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in College Park.

Mrs. Barrett died Saturday, June 21, 2014.

Born Dec. 25, 1916, in Lumpkin, she was the daughter of the late Henry James and Willie Mary Stewart Peagler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howell Barrett.

Mrs. Barrett graduated from high school magna cum laude and moved to Atlanta. She was employed by Southern Bell/Bell South and retired after 43 years of service. After marrying Howell Barrett in 1948, she and her husband moved to College Park. Mrs. Barrett was an active member of College Park Presbyterian Church. In 1988, Mrs. Barrett moved to Clarkesville. She was an active member of Clarkesville Presbyterian Church and from 1989 through 2006, Mrs. Barrett volunteered at Habersham Medical Center.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Hal and Holley Barrett; and grandson, Scott Bivins Barrett.
