Mrs. Stephens died Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born March 22, 1926, in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late John Shirley and Ethaline Gailey Shirley. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Melvin Thomas Stephens; daughters, Kathy Mirem Stephens and Glenda Lorane Stephens; brothers, Leonard Shirley and Cedron Shirley; and sister, Angie Pritchett.
Mrs. Stephens was an active member of Camp Creek Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress with Short Manufacturing. She enjoyed the outdoors, working with flowers, reading, sewing, traveling and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Eddie Palmer of Alto; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jill Stephens of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Traci Farlow (Kevin), Tyler Stephens and Corey Palmer (Melinda); great-grandchild, Logan Palmer; sister, Ona Belle Buchanan of Demorest; several nieces and nephews.
