Myrtle Hogsed Stroud, 73, of Cornelia, died Aug. 2, 2014, at her residence following a heroic battle with cancer.

At Myrtle’s request, there will be no formal service at this time.

Born Feb. 20, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Hamilton and Celia (Myers) Hogsed.

In addition to her parents, Myrtle was predeceased by husband, John Bruce Stroud, five brothers and five sisters.

Myrtle was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and friend to all who knew her.

Survivors include her five children: son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Myra Collins of Braselton; daughter, Donna Smallwood of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Michelle Smallwood of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Marc Campbell of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Anthony King of Cornelia; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Pearl Wilson of Lula, and many cherished in-laws, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask those who wish to honor Myrtle consider making a memorial donation to: Friends of the Smokies, P.O. Box 1660, Kodak, TN 37764.

Cades Cove held a special place in her heart and brought her so much joy each time she visited.
