If a global pandemic and ongoing 2020 headaches weren’t enough, The Northeast Georgian’s internet system failed in the early morning of last Friday morning, Nov. 6.

The Northeast Georgian relies on its parent company Community Newspapers, Inc. (CNI) servers located in Athens.

“As soon as we learned our servers failed due to breach,” said CNI President Dink NeSmith, “we launched an immediate investigation. A team of experts is working feverishly to have new servers operational.”

CNI’s two dozen newspapers in Georgia, Florida and North Carolina rely heavily on the server to transmit emails and other information over the internet.

Regional Publisher Alan NeSmith said he’s sorry for this disruption and inconvenience for our readers,
advertisers and associates. “We apologize for the disruption,” NeSmith said. “You can be sure we are doing everything possible to get the situation resolved. And I want everyone to know all credit and debit cards are processed by certified third parties independent from The Northeast Georgian and CNI’s internal servers. We do not store full, unmasked customer financial data on our servers.”

While we are working through our technology issue, please use editor@thenortheastgeorgian.com to contact the editorial department and ads@thenortheastgeorgian.com to contact our advertising department. You can always reach any of us by calling 706-778-4215.

As soon as more information is learned, the newspaper will provide an update in print and on our web site. These issues will not affect the publication of The Northeast Georgian.
